The 1st German Bratwurst Museum was opened in 2006 and its permanent exhibition is devoted to the history, traditional production and cultural value of the bratwurst in general and the Thuringian version in particular. With the help of a wealth of exhibits, visitors can trace the route from the pig to the sausage. Appliances and machines from several centuries bear witness to the technical progress of sausage production, from the time when everything was done by hand to today’s industrial manufacture. The Museum’s heraldic bird, called the “Bratwurst Stiebitz”, stands for fun and humour, which should play a major part in any visit to the Museum!
