Apolda

The history of the town is linked above all with two things: bells and knitted goods.
One of the most important bells ever cast here is the 24 ton main bell of Cologne Cathedral.
The APOLDA EUROPEAN DESIGN AWARD was initiated in 1993 and has become one of the most impressive fashion design competitions. It is organised by the Apolda Region which is the centre of the German knitwear industry.
The Bell and Town Museum and the “Olle DDR” (the old GDR) Barrack Hut Museum plus the Apolda Art Gallery with its top-level exhibitions are attractions that draw visitors in scores.
