Petersberg Citadel

The Petersberg Citadel is a unique ensemble illustrating European fortress architecture in 17th to 19th century. It has a Baroque core (1664 - 1704). From 1815, there was neo-Prussian modernisation, of which the defence barracks and artillery wagon houses have survived. The Romanesque St Peters Church was built in 1103 and consecrated in 1147. The Baroque portal at St Peters Gate is the work of A. Petrini (1673).
