Lauscha Coloured Glass Manufactory
Glass manufacture was begun in Lauscha, deep in the Thuringian Forest, as early as 1597. Here there was enough wood, good sand and all the accessories required for glass making. A walk through the coloured glass manufactory and multi-vision shows illustrates the tradition-rich craft. A very special experience: glass is melted at 1500° C, turns fiery-red and is then shaped, drawn and poured. Vases, dishes and drinking glasses are made in this way, as well as tubes and rods that are processed further in front of the glass flame. A magnificent exhibition presents coloured glass of all kinds, which visitors can buy at good factory outlet prices.
