Fairies began their magic in the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes and so gave them their name. In the depths of the abandoned mine, they cast their magical spells to conjure up a wealth of colours and atmosphere. Today, the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes are among the best-known tourist attractions in Thuringia. Every year, they take 200,000 visitors to a world of undreamt-of fascination and amazement. But anyone who thinks he knows the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes is certainly mistaken. For now the fairies have been at work above ground too and have enchanted part of the Town Forest. Together with forest and earth gnomes, elves and other little people, they have created the Little Fairy World - an Other World above the Fairy Grottoes. From 18th August 2007, the Little Fairy World can be discovered by children and adults alike. Whether before or after a guided tour of the Fairy Grottoes with the practical two-in-one ticket or as a separate tour, it has 999 metres of twisting paths just waiting to be explored. The Fairy Card - a small travelling companion - takes the visitor through the Other World to colours, sounds, fragrances, fairytales, sagas and ...... wonders. In the Little Fairy World, there are three kingdoms to be mastered. All you need is courage and imagination - to be enchanted and to dip into the original world of harmony between man and those who populate the world of nature. After entering the Little Fairy World through the Fairy Gate, you have to find your way through the twisting labyrinth of the forest. In the Garden of the Magic Fairy Plants, you can discover the magic of plants or even find a flower fairy. In the Bright Grove of the Light Elves, the shy creatures of light invite you to rest your soul in moments of happiness, to float freely through the forest on the bird's-nest swing, to play your own melody on the fairy xylophone, to open your heart under the bell tree. Fortified by this strength, you can then plunge into the Dark Kingdom of Forest Gnomes to tackle the adventures in the shadow world of the "root-dwelling gnomes" and to free yourself from the haunted cobweb. Here the forces of the earth can be strongly felt and reward courageous visitors with rich treasures. They also point them to the goal of their journey through the Other World, namely the kingdom to which the Grotto Fairy invites them. She is at home in the Fairy Treetop Castle, where she reveals her message to human beings. With a gift visitors return to the human world - as a sign that it was not all just a beautiful dream.
