Park by the River Ilm

The countryside park was created between 1778 and 1828 with Goethe’s help. It has sentimental, Classic and post-Classic features. One outstanding characteristic are the numerous visual planes which relate the striking points inside and outside the park. There are so many interesting items of garden architecture, such as the Roman House, Goethe’s summer house, the park cave, the Liszt House and the Castle Museum on the northern edge of the park, that visitors can happily spend a whole day here.
