The Rennsteig Garden Oberhof is a botanical garden for mountain flora, showing on an area of seven hectares almost 4,000 different plant species from mountain ranges in Europe, Asia, North and South America, New Zealand and the Arctic region. In the climatic conditions of the Rennsteig Garden (at the heights of the Thuringian Forest with 830-868 metres altitude, low average yearly temperature, high annual rainfall and up to 150 days of snow cover) the plants develop their typical shape and flowering. They have been planted according to their ecological demands and geographical origin.
