The impressive four-wing palace towers above Sondershausen, the town of music. Architectural styles of different historic periods characterise the century-old seat of government of the counts and later (from 1697) the princes of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. Today, it is one of the most beautiful palaces in Thuringia. The palace is surrounded by the English styled landscape park Lohpark as well as the Princess and Pleasure Garden which invite visitors to relaxing walks.
On the extensive palace grounds are further historic buildings which are worth seeing. Today, the eight-sided house which was a pleasure house of the court serves as a concert location. Since 2005, the Marstall (stable) is home to the State Academy of Music Thuringia.
